"In-Line" DSL Protocol Analyzer Released - DSLscope
Broadframe's DSLscope is the only DSL protocol analyzer that operates in-line on the copper loop. DSLscope records all traffic between the DSLAM and CPE transparently including:
| |
- Raw ATM cells (AAL0, AAL2, etc)
- VoDSL AAL2 BLES Signaling
- Re-constructs AAL5 packets (TCP/IP, PPP, etc)
- Decodes all the major DSL encapsulation schemes
(RFC 1483/2684 LLC/SNAP, RFC 2364 PPPoA, RFC 2316 PPPoE)
- Decodes for TR-037 Auto-configuration, support due in May
- Other decodes under development - custom decodes considered
- Export to Sniffer format files

DSL equipment developers can use DSLscope to record data traffic and decode, evaluate, and analyze data protocols on the DSL wire.
DSLscope is very useful in software development and troubleshooting DSL line connections. Visibility into the data stream will speed up installation.

VoDSL/BLES Development and Test Tools
Broadframe supports VoDSL development in two ways.
DSLscope (In-Line Protocol Analyzer) monitors AAL5 and AAL2 traffic over an ADSL link. DSLscope decodes BLES-CCS and BLES-CAS signaling. Other decodes are under development. See item 1 for details. DSLscope may be used for CPE or CO development, or troubleshooting DSL connections.
Liberator (DSL Network Simulator) supports basic call signaling for BLES-CCS and BLES-CAS for CPE developers. Liberator connects directly to the IAD for testing and development. Existing Liberator users can contact their Sales Rep to obtain a free VoDSL evaluation program that runs on any Liberator product.
For more information on VoDSL testing, please contact Broadframe.

Auto-Configuration (TR-037) Test Support
TR-037 is the DSL Forum's standard that addresses CPE auto configuration. CPE products that support auto configuration will install much easier and possibly eliminate a truck roll.
Broadframe is working with the University of New Hampshire's Interoperability Labs to support TR-037 testing. DSLscope supports TR-037 decodes and can be used by CPE and CO developers to add TR-037 support to their products.
For more information on CPE Auto-configuration, visit the DSL Forum site at:
http://www.dslforum.org/aboutdsl/Technical_Reports/TR-037.pdf
Contact Broadframe for more information on TR-037 support.

Automated reach testing (scripted test suites)
Broadframe is working with Spirent Communications to support automatic reach testing. Using Test Command Language (TCL), a user can configure and control a Broadframe Liberator and a DLS-400 to measure ADSL parameters (Bit rate, noise margin, output power, etc) against different line lengths.
Broadframe provides these TCL script files to all Liberator customers. Contact Broadframe Sales for more information.

New features available now to all customers
Liberator and DSLscope units should be operating with the latest released software.
- Liberator (Only RFC 1483 support, no PPP protocols)
Configuration GUI and Firmware Ver: 1.62
- Liberator Plus or PRO - (support for RFC1483, PPPoA, PPPoE)
Configuration GUI and Firmware Ver: 2.42
Protocol Analyzer Ver: 2.42 (PRO customers only)
- DSLscope
Configuration GUI and Firmware: 1.21
Protocol Analyzer Ver: 1.21
The following are all new features for Liberator and DSLscope. Contact Broadframe for more information on any of these features:
Network Simulator New Features (Liberator)
- OAM F4/F5 support (ATM loopback), for ATM ping. This feature allows a device to find valid VPI/VCI settings by pinging the DSLAM and see what pairs respond.
- Performance improvements to the network simulator provide for a better test session with less troubles and crashes.
- TCL script files used with DLS400 for automated reach testing.
- VoDSL Support Package - used on Liberator provides support for VoDSL. Features include support for Broadband Loop Emulation Service (BLES):
- AAL2 compliant to ATM Forum AF-VMOA-0145.000 and ITU-T I.366.2
- BLES GR-303 CAS FXS-Loop start ABCD signaling bits
Protocol Analyzer New Features (DSLscope and Liberator PRO)
- Decode support for AAL2 signaling (ATM Forum AF-VMOA-0145.000 and ITU-T I.366.2 BLES-CCS/CAS)
- Export data recordings in Sniffer format (.enc file)
- User selected recording buffer size. Larger buffers collect more information but take longer to decode and filter.
- Advanced intuitive filtering enhancement on a wide range of ATM and IP parameters.
- Triggering enhancement (DSLscope only). Trigger on specific data patterns on specific VPI/VCI pairs.
- Increased robustness of fetching recorded packets, especially when starting and exiting other applications at the same time.
- Decodes for TR-037 (CPE auto configuration) - available in May 2002
Does it sound like you are missing something? Contact Broadframe Sales to obtain the latest software versions.

DSL Forum approves Interop test plan (WT-062)
Last month the DSL Forum approved WT-062 ADSL Interoperability Test Plan. The new approved document is Technical Report 48 (TR-048)
According to our small survey, the spec is a test method that the industry will use to set a performance standard. At this time there is no formal certification.
CPE vendors will probably use this test plan as a baseline for interoperability testing. LECs and ISP will continue to have their own test and certification plans.

Plug and Play at SuperComm - are YOU ready?
The DSL Forum is setting up a Plug and Play pavillion at SuperComm this June in Atlanta. The purpose of the display is to show users how easy DSL can be installed. CPE and CO equipment vendors must support auto-configuration (TR-037) to participate. You will need to contact UNH/IOL for more details. UNH is using a DSLscope from Broadframe for testing TR-037. Download the TR-037 spec from the DSL Forum web site.
