Are you TCL'ish?
Introducing TCL support for Liberator

Due to popular demand from our customers, we have developed a TCL interface for Liberator and Liberator PRO.

For those of you not familiar with TCL (pronounced "tickle"), this is a Unix-like shell program that runs on your PC. The shell program can execute script files that control, read, and write configuration information to the test unit (Liberator).

TCL allows the developer to automate testing and integrate Liberator with other test equipment in the lab, such as Spirent Communication's SmartBits traffic generators and DLS TestWorks line simulators. Developers can write a script file that will control Liberator and the Spirent products to loop on tests using several configurations.

TCL support will be provided FREE to all Liberator and Liberator PRO customers. See the Product Updates section in this document for more information.

Visit the TCL Developer eXchange for more information on TCL (http://dev.scriptics.com).

Dazed and Confused?
Firmware & Software Release Information

Some of our users have been a little confused about our software and firmware version numbers for Liberator and Liberator PRO. Frankly, I am too (and I work here). We have put together a small document that describes the various releases and provides information for updating (free) and upgrading (fee) your binaries in Liberator.

You can download the Firmware release sheet at our website:

ATM Debug Support

Don't you hate it when the automatic teller machine does not work properly? How can you troubleshoot the problem?

Sorry, wrong ATM. But are you having problems debugging AAL0 code or your Utopia interface? Liberator PRO will provide support for debugging ATM software.

This new feature will allow Liberator PRO to display the raw hex contents of every AAL0 cell. This means it provides visibility of every byte in every AAL0, AAL2, and AAL5 cell.

We are looking for Beta sites for this software (need to be an existing customer). Contact us if you are interested.

Product Updates

Broadframe is providing software updates to all of our customers. Soon we will be emailing Version 1.4 (for 1.2 and 1.3 customers) and Version 2.2 (for 2.0 customers).

The new updates includes:

  • Support for TCL (see related article)
  • Improved network performance
  • VPI/VCI pairs can be changed without having to recycle power on Liberator. TCL can also control this setting as part of testing scripts.

We now offer 4 versions of Liberator and Liberator PRO at different price points depending on functionality. Please see your Broadframe Sales Rep for more information.

For more information, see the Liberator Software and Firmware Release document (address in the Application Notes section).

Liberators for Rent

Are you affected by the current economy (who isn't?) and do not have the budget to purchase new equipment? If so, then renting may be an option for you.

We are working with a major equipment rental company to add Liberator and Liberator PRO to their offering.

Please contact Broadframe Sales if you are interested in exploring lease or rental options with Liberator.

On the Drawing Board (future ideas)

We have several small projects under development. We are interested in getting your feedback on these features if you are interested in early evaluation (Beta testing). Call me /MT

  • We are developing an interface to extract a training log file from the Alcatel chipset. This log file will help the user to better understand why a modem is not training correctly.
  • ATM Protocol Analyzer - as mentioned elsewhere in this document,
  • Annex B Support - We need some help in testing a new interface card. We need an Annex B Modem!
